Loss in the neighborhood

Tue, 06/19/2018 - 15:33 -- ngopes

I was greeted by silence at her door as

Her father-in-law has just died at 91.

She sat down on a red carpet, her back against the wall,

Legs pulled closer to her chest, resting her chin on her knees.

Her face was hollow, her eyes sunken, with dark circles under her eyes.

“Living far away from family is hard

For we have no one near for moral support when we needed the most,”

She said with a long-sigh.

It seems just like yesterday, and now dear memories of her Grandpa

lives on only inside the four corners of the photo frame.

I felt my heart drop even more as,

I could feel her agonizing pain of loss.

It reminded me of that day when my Grandfather died leaving us behind

and the sad moments have always stayed with me after that time.

 It is unfortunate that how,

emotions can become more acute and

heartbreaking when one is in faraway lands.
