Love, but Not

I have this feeling deep inside,

not quite like or appreciate.

I open my mouth to call it love,

but then I pause, I hesitate.

I test the words: "I love you!"

They echo, cold, empty.

I taste, chew them, waiting,

and only feel more heavy.

You are not love, though you think you are,

and I don't know what to say.

I hope, someday, we'll come very far,

and you'll begin to see it my way.

This poem is about:
Me
