A LOVER'S LAMENTATION

What was wrong with your mouth,
when I took you to KFC on valentines
to eat that delicious chicken thigh?

Why didn't you reject my hand?
When I bought you the phone you dreamt about
Because yours had been stolen in the night
And yet you couldn't afford one

Do you remember when we rushed to the cinema?
To catch that movie the world talked about
And lauded your beauty that Nakia tried to have
Promising to protect you like Okoye of the black panther

Now you have forgotten those insouciant nights
When I loved you with all your faults
The vows we made when we hugged
And the kisses we exchanged when your lips were dry

Did you ever mean a word?
When you whispered those intoxicating lines
Making me think the end won't come
And now our love is a thing to lament about
