The Masque of My Red Death
Location
Lo and behold, friends, my life dressed in gold,
For nothing else does my glory justice:
Here rooms of color, each so grandly bold,
And marvelous! You'd swear't an angel's kiss.
Friends, do not waste your time with the last room
For there is nothing there you must now see.
Avert your eyes thus to these curtains. Doom!
I forbid you to in the back room be!
O, dreadful creature, wherefore do you come
And taunt me thus? Demon show me your face.
Hark! It is I, this corpse, unwelcomed home
To shed light through the stone walls of this place.
My soul feigned golden's blackened by a truth:
The man unmasked is worthy of all ruth.
