Memoir of a Modern Day Teenager

Location

Broken.

Misguided.

Confused,

and Lost.

I am a modern day teenager.

I go to school.

Am obedient.

Do my studies.

Your perfect worker bee.

I am a modern day teenager.

I do everything you expect.

I do everything you ask of me.

Now tell me teacher,

Does that really make you happy?

I am a modern day teenager.

I tweet. Take selfies. And I addictively text.

But I also read, write and often contemplate sex.

All the while feeling inside,

A severe lack of respect.

I am a modern day teenager.

I’ve a lot more potential,

Than you’ll ever realize.

So I ask you one favor, teacher.

Please, open your eyes.

I am a modern day teenager.

Both curious and adventurous.

Yes, that is what I am.

But also delicate and gentle.

So fragile;

Capable of crumbling in your hand.

I am a modern day teenager.

I’m asking for guidance,

To be nurtured and cared.

But most importantly, for you to take me

For exactly who I am.

I am a modern day teenager.

Young, Innocent,

And naive.

Yes that is all me.

For I am a modern day teenager.

Why teacher?

What more could I be?
