Memories

I could see the rage,
the revenge,
the hatred,
death.
My memories tarnished,
with visions of horror.
Mangled, mutilated bodies.
Screams that echo in my skull.
Forever yearning for their lost life.
I could but stand and watch.
Their faces feel fresh in my mind.
As if only yesterday
their lives were mercilessly taken.
And then …..light.
It ended.
The screams stopped,
the visions gone.
It was over.
No more terror.
No more fear.
Peace.

This is a poem I wrote awhile ago, but I think it is my best. I had to write it for school, from the point of view of a Holocaust victim.
