Mermaid apostasy

Dad,

The amount of times I've been called little

Told I can't go outside the kingdom

Swim to see the sweet sunset take over

It's maddening

All I want is freedom; a voice for myself

That's why I'm leaving for good

I'm getting my legs and never coming back to this sorry place

My dreams are larger; My dreams consist of freedom

I'm tired of being the small one, the odd one out

Once I get rid of this tail my life will change

Sorry you can't see it the way I do but I'm leaving home

I don't mean to hurt you but I have no choice

I hope that someday you'll understand

That I can never live up to your standards

That this is what needs to happen, it's fate

Love,

Ariel
