Mijas

Tue, 01/24/2017 - 17:48 -- MLY

Summation of sacrifice. Resilient. Loud. Pero Calladitas. Scrappy. Intelligent. Deep feeling. Strong.

We are mijas.

We are daughters of immigrants.

That is what we are.

We are strong when we grow up between two cultures.

We are strong when people question our latinoness because of fair skin.

We are strong when people question our latinoness because of dark skin.

We are strong when people tell us to go back to where we came from.

This. Is. Our. Home.

We are strong when we refuse to stay silent.

When we call out misogyny

Racism

When we fight for others.

We are strong when we can see that even our well meaning significant other still prefers us when we are meek, when we capitulate.

But. That. Is. Not. Who. We. Are.

We are brave, resilient, outspoken.

We are strong, and we will continue to speak.

Everyone loves a strong woman until she opens her mouth.

But then again, well-behaved women rarely make history.

And. We. Will. Make. History.
