The Miles They Ran

I wondered why they ran for so long
their bare feet strike rocky hills, sand, snow…
Thuds of fear…trails of tears…happiness…love lost

The autumn leaves start to fade into dust
And I still wondered why they ran
Miles and miles of smiles
Crooked teeth, illusions of windows

Why did I run so far for so long?
As my bare feet strike pavements of thoughts
I dream their dreams of light
and angels…and love that never disappoints

Holding their breaths in fear that they may fall
I hold it for them.
I breathe for them.
steady beats…I hear our hearts.
Our heart beats beat. In steady beats.
