The Moment

Take me to the moment when our eyes first met

Across the room, at a party

You didn't have to say a word

I knew what you were thinking, without meeting you before

Take me to the moment when we had our first kiss

Atop the skyscraper, the twinkling lights all around us

The city noise far below

They could not touch us in that moment, we were all alone

Take me to the moment when I fell in love

Looking out over the ridge, the city in the distance

All the wildlife had gone to sleep; save for the crickets

Who had stayed awake if only to sing a love song just for us

Take me to the moment just a while ago

When I looked into your eyes and saw my future in an instant

It will be us against the world

And every new moment will be the best I ever had

.....

Help me forget the moment when I dropped the phone

Couldn't move, couldn't speak

Forgive me if I cried

My happiness was taken away in the blink of an eye

I wish I'd never experienced the moment when the truth was screaming at me

I refused to believe, I couldn't admit that it was true

You were all I ever needed, the rock that I could lean on

Your light had flickered out and the darkness was overwhelming

I wasn't there for the moment when the preacher said his funeral prayer

All your loved ones had gathered to see you off in despair

But I, I could not show, I could not bear the loss

The cross that I now wear

Take me to the moment when we meet again

The only thing to get me there is memories

The ones of your smile and the way that you laugh

I can't wait to be with you once again
