Moment of Quiet Peace

Location

A moment of quiet peace

lying there in strong arms

I take a deep breath and feel

two hearts beating in sync

In that moment the world feels somehow smaller

and past memories and the everyday seem in that moment

trivial.

I close my eyes for but a brief minute

then force myself to stare open eyed–

to stare open eyed at the moonlight shadows on my wall.

In case that moment slips me by

I grasp tightly-

feelings of safety, of understanding, of stillness–

those unfamiliar warmths that currently embrace me.

A moment of quiet peace

lying there in strong arms.

The comfort of sweet breath upon my neck

reminds me that I am alive.

For once I am mindful in the present moment.

There is nothing in that moment I would rather be doing

There is nowhere in that moment I would rather be.

Because, if but only for a moment,

Absent my dreams,

I have found:

A moment of quiet peace

lying there in strong arms.
