Money or Happiness

"I was just trying to be affectionate; get used to it."

"Just let me do what I want and stop throwing a fit."

"Why are you crying? You are only making things worse."

"You don't do anything that I say, you are such a curse!"

"If you tell anyone about this, you will ruin your whole life."

"I know you are my daughter but please, why won't you be my wife?"

"If you walk away now, you will never have money."

But isn't it funny?

The humiliation, the abuse, all tore me apart,

I didn't know what was happening at the start.

You told me that this would be,

The only way for me to get a degree.

You gave me a decision to make,

Money or happiness, 'please pick for my sake'.

But what about me?

Why didn't you just let me be?

At sixteen I made a decision,

With the hopes of creating a new vision.

One where instead of having a ring,

I was able to smile and sing.

Money or happiness, which one will I choose?

The one that won't have me dead on the news!

You may have been a huge fear I had,

But now you're a thing of the pass, and for that I am glad!
