More than college

Oh college, oh that place.

The studying, the homework,

The Kid next to you zoned out on the teacher’s face.

But now I’m here, there is such beauty around

Trees and flowers, the U.P. is the place I always wish to be found.

Trees of green, then of gold, there is pine and birch.

Oh what a sight to behold.

The fall is such a magnificent time, fishing and running, gliding through the pines.

The art I do here is a pleasure that creates gladness inside

Because I am blessed to make a place for the beauty to reside.

To remember the places I watched reverently;

To color a canvas so vibrantly.

Oh the friends, now I get to delight in their joy

Of classes, and homework, and summer trips to Illinois.

Of adventures, camps, and lakes glistening white,

Their retelling makes my face shine bright.

Oh the relationships we build are worth more than gold.

The athletic events, the running, the changing leaves,

The fishing or painting beauty is so much less, compared to simply shooting the breeze.

For what is important in this life is not all the places we see or the things we can do,

It is the love we share and how we show that we care.

It is the hearts we touch and the peace we bring.

People are what make me twist and shout.

A smile can make the world turn around.
