More Money

Our mother,

So dear.

I’m sorry for these words,

You are about to hear.

But, dear mother,

We have mistreated you like no other.

Myself,

My many sisters

And brothers.

Oh, dearest mother,

Your seas were always blinding me

With its immense beauty.

The ecosystems it holds,

The many stories it’s told,

And the shimmering, deep, blue

Color of its water,

Always freezing cold.

Your massive trees,

Some aging up to hundreds of years old.

Housing thousands of animals

And their leaves tell hundreds of tales.

These leaves,

An emerald green,

Can hide even a baby’s wails.

They hold something unseen,

And has the greatest meaning.

They hold the stories untold,

Give warmth to the cold,

And comfort the old and weary.

This atmosphere you’ve given me,

This ozone protecting me,

From the dangers that I cannot see.

Is something I’ll forever be thankful for,

And hold it dearly,

In the cove of my body.

The many species that inhabit you,

Create who you become,

And so well cared for.

You make sure to open that door

To a life each organism can work for.

You put in so much effort,

So much time,

Into such a wonderful world.

And I’m sorry.

I’m sorry we’ve ruined that for you.

I’m sorry we’ve spoiled your care,

Throwing your feelings to the door,

I’m sorry for leaving you in destruction.

Oh, dearest mother,

We’ve destroyed you like no other.

Your seas no longer hold their beauty,

The ecosystems are demolished.

The coral reef you took in so much pride?

Abolished.

On no one would I wish,

But there’s so much more.

Oh, mother,

Nurturer of the world,

Your humans have destroyed

Everything you worked so hard for.

We replace your beautiful trees,

Your emerald green leaves,

With buildings and cement.

We have no empathy,

Because that’s what makes us money.

We don’t care that cutting down your forest

Would destroy,

The homes of the animals whom inhabit it.

We don’t care that the trees

Are what creates clean air to breathe.

All humans ever hear is “more money”.

Loving mother,

Destroy these factories,

They pollute our air,

And destroy the atmosphere,

The ozone protecting the beings whom live here.

It keeps breaking,

And breaking,

Causing the earth to grow in warmth.

Global Warming.

The most serious action,

We have done against you.

The polar ice caps are melting,

Causing Polar Bears to become endangered, soon to be extinct.

They can’t find food,

They have nowhere to sleep,

And I know all these things make you weep.

Because I’m dreaming of a white Christmas,

But it feels like spring.

The temperature continually rising.

Causing the heat to be higher than it was,

And there’s only one cause:

Humans saying “more money”.

We ignore science,

Believe nothing is wrong.

What a coincidence.

We scream “more money”

And believe everything is as fine as it seems.

Oh, caring mother,

We’ve used your pets,

And murdered them when finished.

But only the ones who won’t fight back.

Only the ones who can be domesticated.

We lock them in cages,

And show them our lack of empathy and care.

We torture them for ages.

Until they listen.

We separate them from their young,

Use their talents for entertainment.

All while keeping them in strict containment.

Dearest Mother,

Lover of her creation,

I’m sorry.

You gave us life,

And in return we gave you destruction.

We’ve created wars on your soil,

And spilled our own blood.

We throw our lives to the mud

For something as simple as drugs.

We’ve become a being of hate,

And negativity has become more than a state of mind.

It’s now a way of life.

All we do is scream,

“More money”

Because it seems to be a main theme of our story.

Oh mother nature,

I deeply apologize,

For the cries you must hear at night.

From the neglected,

Poor,

Malnourished,

And unprotected.

Because humans have out each other there.

But we cannot dare acknowledge the pain,

We’re supposed to ignore those cries we hear at night.

But I,

I refuse

Because the idea that some live matter less,

Is the root of all that is wrong.

I want to do everything I can to help everyone.

No matter how long this can take.

I pledge to give my life to helping those in need.

This is the person I was raised to be,

And the thought of anyone having to go days without food,

Or anything to drink,

Completely disgust me.

So I pledge to help,

To my best ability,

Any being,

Human or animal,

That may be in need.

Dearest Mother Nature,

How I love you.

And I refuse to just be another machine.
