My African American Me

My skin is dark

My hair is short

I'm beautifully unique

my African American me

My eyes are brown

my voice is loud

it's almost profound

My history is strong

my people will fight

and we won't stop

until America is right

Society wants to question me

"are you ashmed of being you?"

"don't you want long hair?"

"wouldn't that be fair?"

"Or don't you want  blue, green, or hazel eye's?"

But don't you realize that I see through the lies

I don't need to look like society's perfect girl to be beautiful

My skin maybe dark

and my hair mght be short

but I'm beautifully unique

my African American me.
