My Angel

Location

She tries to hide her pain behind a mask,

Regretting the way of her secret past.

She hears her daddy come in through the door,

He's been drinking again and that's for sure.

Nobody ever seems to know just why

A little girl who can only deny

That one day her cuts and bruises shall fade.

I glanced at her and saw that she was afraid.

I extend my hand and say it's alright,

You are not to blame for what happened tonight.

She looked at me, smiled, and nodded her head.

She knelt down in my dark pink tulip bed.

Never before did she behave this way;

Acting like the child she never got to be.

Standing back up she gave me a note:

Thank you for being my guardian angel!
