My Debt to Society

Never quite understood how people could envy me

When my upbringing was pierced with struggle and violence

As a result, feeding to my fatuous inferiority complex or complexities

I guess people only see what they want to see.

The reality is that we all face hidden battles unspoken to the world

-- no matter how we look or what’s in our bank accounts

The truth is you think I’m arrogant because I care less about what you think of me

And more about what I think of myself

But in all honesty, you don’t know me

So your opinion lacks accreditation

See me listening to you about who I am

Would be like the doctor asking the patient how to perform surgery

Or the singer expecting the audience to have vocal training.

The reality is I don’t owe you I owe my GOD, my alpha and omega

I owe my family

And importantly, I owe myself.

I owe myself the courage to be who I am

I owe myself the strength to fight for the things I love and the people who love me

And the fortitude to go after my dreams

I owe myself the faith to not doubt my abilities

I owe myself the knowledge to know that I am beautiful and the power to ensure that others know the exten of their beauty as well

I owe myself the confidence to believe that I am worthy

And last but not least, I owe it to myself to be great

Or better yet, AWESOME.
