My English Teacher

My chocoholic English teacher lights
Up the classroom. Her witty remarks make
The children giddy. She makes sure we cite
Our work. For projects she won’t let me bake.

She taught me many lessons. For instance
Which kind of passive voice is not allowed
And to always go the extra distance.
I hope that this sonnet will make her proud.

She does not want us to use words like things,
So now we use gadgets, gizmos, and goods.
She always answers the phone when it rings.
She doesn’t understand when we talk hood.

She fusses at students who like to cuss.
I hope she gives my sonnet an A plus!
