My Generation

Location

My generation thinks there must be some way

To remove all inequality, so we all are the same

We aren’t close minded,

As we constantly are reminded

They think we are tainted

But have they seen the world which with we are acquainted

We are supposed to trust our elders

But they are the welders

Of this broken world,

Which we are just  born into

Of this broken world,

Which they refuse to change

We try our best

And fight for the rights

But we are “just” kids

So we lose the fights,

Are you really fighting, for rights of all?

I mean it should be simple,

I would rather die than take the fall

For a measure not taken,

For a people now enslaved

For a rainforest now overtaken,

For a species not saved

The adults don’t understand

And continue their petty fights

The world that they leave us,

A disaster in human rights

I have to go to school

Five days a week,

I write an essay in two days,

But you can’t pass a bill,

That displays,

All the human and animal rights,

Talked about today?

This message I’m portraying

Is not of disrespect

But please understand,

I don’t want our species to be next

Gone is the dodo bird, the Tasmanian tiger,

Dead is the passenger pigeon,

No longer to carry our letters

Don’t you understand

This world is in dire need

Of the children today

Who can no longer play

Safely, without worrying about

Who is next

And what it may be

And if they’ll be able to see

The planet, with all its trees

The high school students of today

Are more supportive of the rights

Of their fellow students and people

Most of the adults are looking for hate

We respect all religions,

All races, all countries

We know that people are hungry

For food, or for equal rights,

Or to never see an animal die in strife

But do the adults listen?

No they sit, and worry

If O.J. Simpson had a fair jury!

That was 28 years ago!

Can we please knock some sense,

Into the adults who are supposed to represent?

Instead of worrying about college prices,

And the students who no longer have college in their sight,

They worry about short shorts, and YOLO tattoos,

Is that really the best you can do?

I mean, the short shorts, the YOLO tattoos,

They aren’t great, between me and you

But we have bigger things to worry about,

This society isn’t perfect,

But instead of blaming us kids,

Focus on the people above thirty-two

They post this mean slander,

They are worse than us kids,

About someone whose political views,

Differ from his

Is this the view we want to teach the kids?

Who have never known,

Any different than this?

The teenagers of today,

Ask the adults of now,

We want to change the world,

But how?
