My Little Black Dress

I feel beautiful in my little black dress

but my little black dress

does not indicate that I want to be caressed.

I don’t understand why I have to address

that my little black dress

does not give men access

to disrespect me and make me feel distressed.

Don’t threaten my safety if my answer is the opposite of ‘yes’.

A no means no

and if you can’t comprehend that,

you’re incredibly stupid, I must confess.

I apologize greatly that your masculinity is frail

and causes you to feel oppressed.

I know that it’s hard for you to digest

that no woman owes you anything

no matter how she’s dressed.

Stop saying,“If you don’t want to be upset,

well maybe you shouldn’t be wearing that little black dress.”

It’s heart-wrenching to know that it’s 2019

and the mindset of some men has yet to progress.

How many more times do I need to stress

that my little black dress does not mean yes?
