To My Mother

By blood I am not your daughter, but that doesn’t change the love you have given me for years.

By blood you are not my mother, but that doesn’t mean I don’t see you as the woman who gave me a life.

By blood we are not related, but by the love, patience and time we gave one another we’re mother and daughter.

You will never be seen as anything else except my mother.

-to the woman who is not my birth mother but is my mother
