My New Friend

Tue, 01/21/2014 - 22:39 -- Beth

You have been brought down at last!

Finally, I see you as you really are,

as only a friend from the past,

no more my knight in shining armour.

Attractive you are, always, ever -

sweeping shoulders, massive hands -

but someone new has taken over,

though for now we are but friends.

He's shown me what true friendship is,

and while perfect he is not,

the hands I long for now are his;

his the heart that I have sought.

We may not yet be in love,

perhaps we never will,

but his friendship is enough

to keep away the lonely chill.
