My Nightmare is Real

I woke up from a nightmare

Drenched in sweat

I heard bullets and screams ring through the air

"POLICE, PUT DOWN YOUR WEAPON!"

"BLACK LIVES MATTER!"

As I looked out the window, blood flooded the streets

Police and civilians all were dead

If all lives matter, why was innocent blood surrounding our streets...

Why did this war break free

Could others not see

That behind various colors of flesh

Is a beating heart, a working mind, and veins that all keep us alive?

Being lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender

Being black, muslim, white, or latino

Being a man or a woman

Doesn't make us who we are

But our single sided stories

Our stereotypes

Our stigmas

Possessed our minds

And made a human race become victims of murder, hate, and crime

Blood started to rain upon my windows

I pinched myself hoping it was just a dream

Too bad all of our perceptions of each other made this dream our realities.
