My Story

I was born a princess, there was no shame in me.

I was happy and innocent, caring and free.

But the years went by, I was just fourteen,

A boy met my eye- he was kind, funny, and lean.

One night we were texting without any shame,

but it soon became sexting, so I took all the blame.

It happened again, night after night,

but a voice deep inside me said, "This isn't right."

Where should I go? Where should I turn?

These questions inside me continued to churn.

But a sharp silver blade sat on my chair,

my eyes looked upon it- I can't even dare.

Before I knew it, my hands grabbed the blade,

I cut and I cut until several marks were made.

Tears streamed down my face, one after the other,

But I still cut and cut one after another.

My arms were all scarred but no one even knew,

I was hurting everywhere, but what else could I do?

I couldn't hold it in, I told someone my story.

They gave me a hug and said, "Sweetie, don't worry."

They wiped away my tears and looked me in the eyes,

"Your worth doesn't come from beauty, money, or guys".

Those kind words of wisdom are stored in my heart.

Now my life's a clean slate, I'm back to the start.

I stand here today with wise words just for you,

So listen carefully 'cuz each one is true.

Your worth doesn't come from beauty, money, or guys,

it's from your Creator, He protects you from lies.

So the next time you're tempted to cut or to harm,

remember your worth's not the cuts on your arm.

Your Creator, He loves you, this much is true,

because I once was freed, and you can be too.
