A Neighborhood

i live in a neighborhood

where the streetlights blind us of the stars

and semen flows down sewer grates like rain water

a neighborhood where hopes and dreams scurry with the mice

shooed off with brooms held by unwed mothers who want nothing more

than to have these pests destroyed

i live in a home

where fabrications are our fabric

and conspiracies are our pillows

where we must turn off our own awareness like lightbulbs

so we can get a good night's sleep

i live in a world

where it only takes one person to make a difference

and one bullet to keep it the same
