Newness

Sat, 08/27/2016 - 22:32 -- kamala

You rest beneath the surface of my mind

as you meld into the surface of the earth.

Talking about you is still hard, but it needs to be done.

Got you engraved on my arm so I could say your name

To people who ask blunt questions

and wither under blunt answers.

Some days, the glare of you in my soul drinks me into

dazed spirals, dragging me away.

Out of nowhere, you call back the days when

Every morning was a battle and a test

Of my faith in resilience and good intentions.

These mornings, I wake with the thirst

To save my pain like a story

That will be someone’s salvation.

Every life I have cradled within me

over the years, a new light.

And when I shake with the rawness of it all,

when the world catches me in its teeth -

I let the blood run forth, warm and forgiving.

For my loss is but a void for newness

and the day has only just begun.
