Now It's My Turn

Location

When I was supposed to be young and carefree,

my friends fell in love too many times

and fell asleep to nursery rhymes.

But not me.

I grew up fast and realized that life isn’t what it’s cracked up to be.

I found solace in the movie theaters

and made friends out of fictional characters.

Movies saved me.

I spent my life in the audience, but now it’s my turn

to touch the heart of the next broken one.

My life was shaped by movies, but I’m not done.

I want to spend my life shaping movies but where do I learn?

I’ll spend the next four years working towards a filmmaking degree

and make friends from the bottom on my way to the top.

I’ll keep my head on the ground without letting my hopes drop.

For only connections and humility can help me.

The film industry is a tough one.

I’ll have to deal with the competition

of those with more talent and intuition.

But when you have the passion and dedication, you’ve already won.

With the deteriorating relationship of art and society,

I want to spend my life showing them all

that movies and music and stories can break down walls

to curing anxiety.

Because you can’t spell “earth” without art,

just like how you can’t forget the stories that touched your heart.
