Ode to the Woes

An ode to the person that I see in the mirror,

Keep your distance, don't come any nearer.

Your reflection bothers me and brings me to tears,

You are my inner demon, you represent my fears.

You've buried me deep in this unrelenting hole,

All your hateful words have taken their toll.

I lay here gasping, clawing for the stars.

I am defeated, covered in blood and scars.

But the person is you, and this person is me,

The two are one, but I'm looking to be free.

My chains are gone, but the memories remain,

In the years to come, I won't be the same.

Ode to the person I buried deep within,

Ode to the new one, who's life is 'bout to begin.

Ode to me, cause I've made it dammit,

but Ode to the ones who lost the gambit.
