Oh say can you see, how America came to be

Oh say can you see

how America came to be,

By the dawn’s early light,

how we always shone bright

What so proudly we hailed

with people who from all over sailed

At the twilight’s last gleaming,

what makes this country redeeming

Whose broad stripes and bright stars

should never be kept behind bars

Through the perilous fight,

where not everyone is right

O’er the ramparts we watched

Where so many are blotched

were so gallantly streaming?

But will always be dreaming

And the rocket’s red glare,

we should all come to share

the bombs bursting in air,

because life isn’t fair

Gave proof through the night

with such force and such might,

that our flag was still there,

which upon it we stare

Oh say does that star-spangled banner

which demands a newfangled manner

yet wave

for the slave

O’er the land of the free

where we all came to be

And the home of the brave,

which will never ever stave
