Old People Have Feelings Too

Location

built in a time when children knew better

his hands not yet weathered

the cabin in the woods

stayed standing

often stirred awake by the purity

of child’s laughter

its door opened a world of imaginable

as snow covered it like a forgiving blanket

and then hot suns seemed to

breathe onto it

the devil’s breath

the cabin in the woods

stayed standing

as cigar smoke

bellowed from the eaves

the young boy that once was

he still lingered in the cracks

but his hands were weathered

the cabin in the woods

stayed standing

and loyal to the river

never turning its back

and the river did the same

sharing secrets through whispers

the cabin in the woods

stayed standing

the old man still sat inside

as memories seeped through the walls

and ancient tears hit the floor

each containing a glimpse

of what used to be

the cabin in the woods

stayed standing

and became friends with the moonlight

and enemies with time

the cabin in the woods

stayed standing

forever waiting

for the boy to return
