One Nation, 'Indivisible'

Why do we continue to insist
On saying 'our flawless nation'
When that very statement
Couldn't be further from the truth?

The Right hates the Left.
The Left hates the Right.
If we choose a side, we're hated.
If we refuse to choose, we're hated.

We constantly fight about the issues
That aren't even significant.
We pay more attention to bathrooms
Than we do to the homeless, the needy.

For an 'undivided' nation we boast about,
We attack one another on a daily basis.
For a nation that is said to be 'indivisible',
We are mere moments from breaking away.

We've heard the same arguments
Over and over again:

"Feminists vs Egalitarians"
"BlackLivesMatter vs AllLivesMatter"
"Republicans vs Democrats"
"Conservatives vs Liberals"

I only have one question to ask:
Who cares?

When did we, as a nation,
Become so concerned about labels?
When did we, as a nation,
Become the very thing we preach against: divided?

Black people are seen as thugs, killers.
White people are seen as monsters, demons.
Women are seen as over-emotional, dull.
Men are seen as abusive, rapists.

Christians are seen as illogical, idiotic.
Atheists are seen as immoral, Satanists.
Gay people are seen as perverted, repugnant.
Straight people are seen as intolerant, oppressors.

It's time we drop these labels,
Drop these silly issues,
And to start coming together
As one nation, indivisible.

We need to be there for each other,
Have each other's backs
For if we don't,
Who will have ours?
