On our Anniversary

A gift to treasure has become my own

The one that I call wife

And again God has made His goodness known

In salvation, provision, and life.

A person to grow with through the good and bad

She will face all storms with me

And I will seek to be a better husband and dad

As she helps me more to see

An adventure taken without path or cars

by the covenant made, His decree

We seek to model the maker of stars

After His love for the church on the tree.

A woman so skilled in all her ways

I am regularly put to shame

She handles life in every phase

How could I meet such a dame?

A love that is precious, given from God

Because He first loved us

We seek to discredit idolatries’ fraud

For we were made from dust.

A wife that is loving in every deed

Her wisdom abounds all the more

She would work, suffer, and even bleed

Like the sand on every shore

A lovely gift, an adventure is she

Never cruel, or rude, or mean

There is no price, nor any fee

To purchase my dear Christine

A person, a woman, a wife, and mom

I’ll love her for as long as I live

She’ll guide our children in righteousness

To hope, and love, and forgive.

A steward given to help her indeed

I must shepherd, provide, and protect

And with these I must also heed

To love without neglect.

A human to hold her when she weeps

And to recognize God’s mighty plan

To model King Jesus to every sheep

And point them to the God-man.

A path from youth to maturity

Is the one we travel on

Two truths are our security

Sovereign love so fond

A man who wants to grow for his girl

Not to become rich or burly

But hand in hand to jump every hurtle

Before the Lord, unworthy.

A minister of the truth to my bride

I will seek to help her see

To come to God in love, to confide

And from sin He makes us free.

A husband who simply cannot compare

To her love and zeal and works

But to be made as a God made pair

As Christians, there are so many perks.

A steward of this path to minister well

To my wife and now our own

Knowing that only God pardons from hell

Glory to He who atones.

A human a man and a husband am I

Oh the delight that I have

To face this life every laugh and cry

To lead with His given staff.

A couple are we decreed before time

We must not model Adam and Eve

We must demolish every temptation to crime

While we leave, and cleave, and weave.
