I was rose-colored once
Tainted by a soft pink
That resonated from my cheeks
The brush strokes that created me
Rippled across my skin
I’d hide behind “light ivory”
Disguise what lived within
But time’s been known to change a person
Don’t we know it well
I traded artificiality
For a deeper, darker hell
I bear my imperfections
Like a giant egg-shell flag
Because I do surrender
To a smokey, burning drag
And while I have known happiness
I do not feel it now
However I am strong enough
And do not, to darkness, bow
