Paper Hearts

Paper hearts flutter in the breeze
Twisting, turning, and floating to the ground
Only to be picked up again with ease
And to continue to be tossed around

My dear friend, you come to me with

tears in your eyes

words of frustration on your tongue

shoulders slumped and your head down

and you ask me in a little voice,

"Why?"

I know what you're upset about.

It's because you can't seem to catch

the eye of the one who caught your heart.

What you don't understand

is that love doesn't happen the way that

f a i r y t a l e s

say it does.

You can't sit there in the corner

and hope that he just

suddenly sweeps you off your feet.

All you can do is get to know him

And wish for the best.
