Peace

When peace envelopes you like the steam from a hot cup of tea,

all you can do is embrace it back.

Alleviate yourself

from all of life’s stressors,

give up your struggles

in exchange for that warm comfort from the steam.

Welcome that cup of tea,

the comfort of peace.

Allow it to consume your doubts and your worries.

Although it has imposed itself upon me before,

the swaddling warmth of peace

only comes when my weeping heart won’t cease.

It stays at bay, while I have my way.

Refusing

Protesting

Rejecting

that enveloping warmth,

that tender caress of steam.

At times my pride

forgets that I am only me.

This cup of tea, this warmth from peace

is something I do not deserve,

yet still,

it comes to me.

This cup is provided by a single source.

The Maker of this tea

is the sole provider of my peace.
