Perfect Moments

Location

Sometimes in life there are perfect moments. I finish the hardest part of a really demanding karate test and rush, dripping sweat and wearing a face-splitting grin, into a huge bear hug from the friend who’s been there with me every step of the way. I sit in the back of a car at 11:30 at night on the way home from a wonderful dance. My best friend leans her head on my shoulder and we share an ipod as thoughts of a curly-headed boy named Josh and a thing called the flirty reel go through my head. The sky is absolutely perfect as the Milky Way shines in all its fabled glory and I breathe in the scent of my friend’s shampoo. We listen to Sugarland and I contemplate the irony of being restless and absolutely content. Her hair feels like silk on my face. I sit on my porch swing and rock back and forth under the eerie night clouds overhead.. The stars can’t be seen but the moon just manages to make an appearance. I blow bubbles and watch them disappear on a night breeze into the blackness. I have hope tonight. I just might be going home. Sometimes in life there are perfect moments.
