Persephone Retold

They robbed her of her darkness

Gave her ebony hair and an apple to bite

Made poison her downfall

And a kiss her salvation

They forgot what was real

Now she sings songs on Broadway

They stripped her of her horrors

They forgot she was a queen

A conqueror of life and death

Yet again they did the same

With Midas and Venus

Odysseus and Nike

Now they are all names

Brands upon a label

Myths retold by those long dead

Their power forsook

Their tales forgotten

Who will reawake them?
