pink

When I was little I loved pink

Pink was the color of princesses and love

Pink was the color I was supposed to love

Pink was the color every girl should love

Every girl should want princesses and love

When I was older I hated pink

Pink was the color of toddlers and babies

Pink was the color of sweetness and naivety

Pink was the color of what every girl should be

Every girl should be sweet and naïve

Eleven months ago we got a call

A call that no one ever wants to hear

A call that said your mother’s body was killing itself

A call that said the one word you never wanted to hear

Cancer

Six months ago I hated pink

Pink was the color of cancer

Pink was the color of sickness and tests

Pink was the color that was supposed to make it easier

Nothing made it easier

Three months ago I fell back in love with pink

Pink is the color of strength and of victory

Pink is the color of community and hope

Pink is the color of brave women who conquered the biggest enemy of all

Pink is the color of survival

Pink is the color of new life

Pink is the color of love
