Power of Choice

I believe in the power of the weird.

I’ve never really understood what ‘popular’ means

It changes I guess.

In elementary school it’s whose fast and plays four-square during recess.

In middle school it’s dressing a certain way and dating a new person each week.

But in high school popular changes.

Dramatically.

Subtly it becomes all about dating the right person

And going to parties where being sloppy drunk and higher than the tree line

Is a mysterious rite of passage.

No matter what—you have to be invited to things—

Parties, lunch tables, prom groups…

But I don’t believe in that.

It’s ridiculous, and quite frankly, stupid.

Need to dress ‘right’

Need to eat ‘right’

Need to act ‘right’

It’s all just hypocrisy at its best.

I believe in weirdness.

‘weird’ comes from Norse

Literally meaning ‘to control fate’.

It’s getting to choose what you do

And not changing your interests to clone 200 others.

Weird is getting excited and awesome.

Someone famous said “we are all a little weird,

and life’s a little weird”

Daring to be different is in human genetics.

Popularity should be about relevant things:

Individuality and self-confidence.

I believe in the power of the weird.

And that’s my choice.

Not yours.
