The Power of Popularity

Every day at school starts out with the same thing.

Sit down, take names, and I wish something would change.

See, public opinion is what's driving this game.

That was a broad statement so let me explain:

Every day at school feels like a fashion show

And I'm still confused 'bout what the fashion's fo'.

People lose sight of how much money they're spending.

Throwing it away just to try to stay trending.

The stereotypes in high school are ashame.

Rumors and gossip are fuel to the flame.

Tongues will cut, insult, or cause pain.

Clothes are a target based on brand name.

We should be less judgmental and it would be a good start

If we wouldn’t judge our peers just because they aren't smart,

Who cares if we don't make straight A's and B's?

And does it matter how we score on our ACT's?

Stop treating your peers as if you're above them.

Maybe they're different but you should still love them!

And sometimes my teachers are doubting my dream.

I swear they said that "we're on the same team."

My English teacher said Melville's the best of all time.

But I can write just as well - and make it rhyme.

My teacher was wrong. I wish I had told her.

That statement was bold but I'll get even bolder.

I hear people say beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

In my eyes I'm twice as good as those two-times older.

I guess expectations are only made to be broken.

I wouldn't go on but my conscience has spoken.

I know I'm not a has-been. I'm a will-be.

If people don't think I'll make it then we'll see.

I'm speaking for me and my every single peer.

It's time for change and the change starts right here!
