The Pursuit of Happiness

Location

It is the ache in your cheeks when your smile has stayed for too long,

The laugh that escapes when you realize it won't go away.

It is picking the perfect gift,

await their reaction as they finally unwrap, and you see the smile

on their face as well.

It is the first flake of snow that falls from the sky,

landing gingerly on your gloved finger.

You let it rest their, as if it is a delicate being, and stare in awe

it its crystalline structure.

It is the first Shooting star you ever saw,

The streaks of wonder it left as it tore across the sky.

It is the embrace of an old friend, their warmth gliding into yours.

It is hearing the words "I am so proud of you"

from the person you least expected to say it.

It is a hot chocolate, served in your favorite mug

on a cold winter day.

It is knowing that you've earned the

one thing you've fought so hard for.

It is finding yourself, and embracing it

with every single fiber of your being.

It is uncontrollable laughter, loud and obnoxious,

at a time when you don't feel the need

for restraint.

It is the song that makes you want to belt at the top of your lungs,

tone deaf or otherwise,

and dance until the end of time.

It is the tingling sensation in your lips, left there

after your first kiss.

It is the memories you share with loved ones, and those you have not yet made.

It is letting yourself go, allowing yourself

to enjoy ever moment of your life

no matter what they might say.

That is Happiness.
