The Reality of it All

Five AM, alarm clock screams

Blaring siren, interrupting my dreams

Stretch and sigh and open my eyes

Hoping I could go back to where my dreams lie

There in that place, I can heal all pain

Take in every stray and see a net gain

Always good hair days, never fall down

Be surrounded by friends, never feel drowned

For where my dreams lie is a place time can’t touch

And try as you might you just can’t get enough

Everyone lives and no one gets hurt

Constant competition but you always come first

No one complains and no one gets lost

Achieves all their goals, no matter the cost

But life isn’t like that, it hurts and it’s hard

You’ll try and you fail, you’ll lose all your cards

Lose friends and lose lovers, struggle and cry

Fall down and bleed, but if you try

You’ll find bubbles of that dream in people you meet

Discover lost places the more people you greet

It’ll never be perfect, it’ll always be hard

All you can do is try not to get scarred

Five AM, alarm clock screams

Blaring siren, interrupting my dreams

Stretch and sigh and open my eyes

Hoping I could go back to where my dreams lie
