Refined Affection

“Obscene and insulting to this practice,”

they scream holding large signs from the roadside

“How dare you condone this sin with such pride?”

“Hell is where you’ll go and Heaven a miss”

Slander coming from a “peaceful” people

Such protest well-foreseen when they agreed

To allow a wrong to spread like a weed

What world is this if we allow this bull--

What crime is this to cause such an outcry?

Simply this: let those be with whom they’re drawn

Love is love; it sings below and above

And so rainbows run ribbons through the sky

Thousands of painted lovers marching on

Who are you to enforce another’s love?
