Remain and Ascend

When I face my dying day

High up in the mountain peaks

Will I have breath to say,

"Wise is he who glory seeks."

The rays of it that I sought

While climbing up this mountain

Became my portion and my lot

Since I rose from the fountain

So every day I climb much more

Not for land nor for earth

I seek the King of life the Lord

Who allowed me second birth

I used to whisper and hesitate

I worried what man would think

The Father planned to decimate

Through man's sin, nails sink

Yet the stones between this hiker's toes

Remind me as I walk

Death must have uttered many woes

After Messiah moved and with him the rock

But now from this mountain I see them there

Walking in the valley

Fellow man clings to despair

Marking common grace in tally

One day the cold valley will seem so far

When I at last plateau

The closer man is to the stars

The louder good news echos

Now as I climb another step

Here upon the earth

Shall I consider treasures kept

That weighed me down with girth

When at last I see the sun

what then will I regret?

When the heat melts the ice away

I'll forget each cold step

I'll recall the Lord of all

Breathing light into my soul

He redeemed me from the fall

Even so,  He paid my debt in full

So when I face my dying day

Unto the land of the living

Then I'll leave the wanting grey

Knowing my sins forgiven
