A Request for an Apology from my Best Friend
Dear Best Friend:
Her name was Cindy S., and she was drawn of crayons
A pink shirt and brown hair and little size 7 pink Vans
Then one day Marley J. drew himself up by her side
A green shirt and scribbly hair and glasses over his eyes
His favorite game was tag, peanut butter his favorite snack
And when the two first met, Cindy S. liked his laugh
The two had a silly idea to splash and play in the rain
So they drew up some blue puddles, and then their swamp they claimed
From this idea they laughed and laughed until came many more
They colored and colored up more ideas, and a new friendship was born
Their friendship filled many pages, of all the colors they could lust
And as they colored and played, Cindy began to trust
When summer ended, school began, and old friends had returned
But Cindy S. and Marley J.'s flame continued to burn
Marley J. was the best friend that Cindy S. could ask
Not only was it fun to play, the two did any task
They colored up ideas, and never turned down a challenge
They ended up accomplishing more than they could imagine
Their friendship was a rainbow drawn up of every color
Cindy S. could trust him as if he was a brother
But then one day
To Cindy's dismay
The trust she'd known was lost
When Marley J.
Went out of his way
To watch her erase her top
But Cindy didn't know this, nor would she for awhile
Marley went on as normal, his lies hidden under his smile
For eight months the friendship went on as if no lines had been crossed
But Marley made a comment
And Cindy found out
And that's when the coloring stopped
Her world turned upside-down and her colors turned to grey
Never in her life had she felt so betrayed
Cindy felt violated
Her friend was gone
Replaced by feelings of disgust
She felt disrespected
How could he?
Just for one moment of lust
After that one moment, for the past eight months, he'd seen beneath her clothes
What could he have been picturing, when Cindy didn't know?
All those times they'd shared together, the memories that would last
All undermined by one unchangeable moment of the past
Was it worth all the tears that Cindy cried herself to sleep?
Was it worth destroying your friendship, just because you wanted a peep?
You saw her naked, completely vulnerable, and not by her permission
And now she's utterly disappointed in you, but that was your decision
She thought more of you than to stoop to a level so low
She'll never look at you the same, and your trust she'll never know
If you're reading this, Marley J.
You owe me an apology.
Sincerely,
Your Best Friend
