Respect is Earned

Wed, 02/04/2015 - 15:19 -- Tabatha

Some of you out there may not believe I deserve your respect,

But I believe I do.

You think I didn't do anything to deserve your respect or anyone else's,

But you are wrong.

If I don't deserve your respect than what makes you think I will respect you.

Yes, respect is earned,

And I believe I have earned it.

You don't know me,

I don't know you.

I have done things you would never think I would do.

I have almost fought someone, yes.

You might have heard that, but you don't know the story.

The story is this:

I was protecting my 11 year old cousin

Because my other cousin's 'friend' was going to either beat her or rape her.

Yes, I don't stand up for myself,

But I will always stand up for family and friends.

I may be what you call a 'loner' that doesn't 'deserve' your respect,

But if you approach me I will talk,

Maybe not all at once - but I will.

I deserve your respect because I have earned it by being there for family and friends.

I am also as kind to people as they are to me.

Now, I have earned your respect,

But,

Have you earned mine?
