Restricted Learning

I used to be eager to learn,

Now I'm forced to yearn

For the knowledge I crave,

And the history I want to save.

We are told what we ought to know,

But are we ever asked what we want? No.

Standards consume our learning;

Teachers don't teach unless they're earning.

Standards determine what we're required to retain,

But what about what we want to see, they keep our minds at bay to try to detain.

Narrow minded opinions and judgements of what really happened,

After all these years, our history remains distorted.
