Rise and Shine

coffee stirs me

            from milky dreams

            raises me from sleep

            steam escaping

            twisted sheets

still foggy on reality

            until I wrap my fingers

            round a cup

The First Sip

             hits like a wave

             steeps my tongue

             in bitter life force

That Morning Sigh

             lets go of headaches

            washes sandy dreams

                        from the corners

            of my skull

drink deep

burn me alive

churn the soil

in my stomach

            plant seeds

watch me sprout

when sunshine hits

my caffeinated skin

coffee in hand

poetry blossoming

            in my cheeks

            on my tongue

This day is mine.
