The Road Ahead

The road that lies ahead in our minds

is often bright and shining

To others, it's dark and gloomy

and every sunrise is a dread

Caught in the middle, I'm paralyzed

between fear and hope

What do I do? Where do I go?

The choices and mistakes are all mine to make

Staring fearfully at the glowing sunrise

The thought came to me in a whisper

The road ahead does not exist;

it lives only in our minds

What we do, where we go

is not all set in stone

There is no road paved ahead for us

it's all just untouched earth

Every minute, every second, every day

we pave it with each step

Sometimes it cracks

other times is holds strong

At times it will seem foggy

and others it will be clear as day

But the road ahead is just an illusion;

a figment of your imagination

Your future does not exist yet.

And that is the most comforting thing of all.
