Sadly, For The Family

Sadly, For The Family.....

Sadly for the family!

Today! I buried a friendship,

Entirely built on trust;

Fully constructed,

On this unwavering love,

Given not, meted out,

Because loyalty was her name,

And this faithfulness;

Could never be replaced by another,

And as the tears still flow,

A great chunk of my life is gone.

Because today I buried a mate;

A canine friend of trust,

Who gave out unconditional love,

From the time

She came home as a little puppy,

To the cries of “not another one.”

Then as a cuddly cutie,

She knew the way

To this man’s heart,

And today it would have been,

Her seventy-fourth birthday

In the counting of human years.

And today I buried a companion,

Who was ever so faithful?

To the very end,

Especially when the veterinarian said;

“’tis better this way,

She’ll feel pain no more.”

And with those sad, sad pleading eyes,

Then looked at me in goodbye,

“Please could you take me home?

Today! I buried years of loving support,

With not a question asked.

Friend you’re so missed,

How can I replace you?

There will always be a now,

Of sadness in my heart,

For the happiness that you gave,

And as for your loyalty

This was beyond reproach.

Today! I buried our dog,

Our family guardian;

And today is GONE my friend.
